WSSU Week One Game Ball: Marcel Carver
The offensive star of Winston-Salem State's 38-7 win over UNC-Pembroke wasn't Phil Sims or Rudy Johnson. It was receiver Marcel Carver, a player most casual WSSU fans had never heard of before Saturday.
Carver had a huge first game for the Rams, catching a game-high 10 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. He had the most explosive offensive play of the day, as he hauled in a 64 yard touchdown catch off of a double pass from Donovan Rasberry.
Making big plays is nothing new for Carver, who started his career at Youngstown State in the FCS. He caught 21 passes for 393 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore in 2013. He's got two more years at WSSU, so expect more big games out of Carver in the future.
